Criminal Defense Frequently Asked Questions Q= Do I need to hire a lawyer?

Q= Do I need to hire a lawyer?

Q= Do I need to hire a lawyer?

A= Yes. If the government investigates you, arrests or charges you with a crime, one of the first thoughts that should come to your mind is:

“Do I need to hire an attorney?”

Although the answer is a simple “Yes,” I regularly hear potential clients and others say the following:

“I am guilty so why should I hire a lawyer?”

“My alcohol concentration was over the legal limit—so I am screwed!”

“Lawyers are expensive. My friend represented herself without an attorney”

“The officer said he would write that I was cooperative and thus I don’t need a lawyer”

“I admitted everything to the officer”

“The judge and prosecutor will punish me more if I hire a private attorney”

In response to these statements, I generally tell these folks the same thing:

Regardless of whether you retain my services, you need to hire a competent and experienced criminal defense attorney | DWI lawyer!

I advise the foregoing because I believe strongly that, whether you are facing one of the most common, yet serious, criminal charges, e.g., DWI, or one of the “least” serious criminal charges, e.g., Noise Violation, you should (must) have a competent, experienced and zealous criminal defense attorney on your behalf:

Regardless of whether you are 100% guilty or 100% innocent!

The criminal justice system is complex and the laws and rules that govern it are ever changing. Thus, a competent and experienced criminal defense attorney | DWI lawyer is absolutely necessary to guide you, fight for you and to protect your rights throughout the criminal court process.

Yes, you may be just as smart (or smarter) than your attorney. However, a competent and experienced criminal defense attorney | DWI lawyer will possess the skills, knowledge and zealousness that an untrained (non-lawyer) person lacks to successfully handle their own case.

After the fact, maybe 5, 10, or 15 years down the road, do you really want to be living with regret (or maybe even what could have been an avoidable criminal record) and thinking to yourself:

“Were my rights truly protected? If only I had retained an attorney!”

A colleague of mine likes to say:

If my house needs a new roof, am I going to fix it myself? No!

I am going to hire a competent roofer to make sure that the work is properly done.

I am not going to risk regret, expense and harm by going it alone.

A competent and experienced criminal defense attorney | DWI lawyer will not only be of high value with substantive matters, e.g., legal arguments, strategy, negotiations, etc., but also with practical matters, e.g., helping you get a Limited Driver’s License (Work/School) Permit, lining you up with a bail bondsman, referring you for a chemical assessment, etc.
