I, Matthew L. Thornton, Esq., am a competent and experienced Minnesota criminal defense attorney | MN DWI lawyer with a history of fighting for and protecting the rights of clients accused of criminal wrongdoing in both state and federal court.

For more than a decade now, I have devoted my client based practice to defending the rights of all types of clients in a variety of criminal cases (practice areas), from the most serious felonies to the serious DWI misdemeanor.

Before starting my client based practice from scratch, I worked as an associate attorney with a small firm where I got my feet wet with my first blushes of courtroom action fighting for and defending those accused of crimes.

I was also previously an adjunct instructor in the legal department of a local university for four years.

I have the academic credentials, degrees and prerequisite qualifications to be a criminal defense attorney, however; more importantly, I have the competence, experience and zealous advocacy traits to fight for you and protect your rights.
